Delicately hued and deceptively strong, the Aviation is a pre-Prohibition cocktail that feels just as modern today. With its light purple tint and floral notes, it’s the perfect cocktail when you want to impress without overcomplicating things. This cocktail is crisp, floral, and slightly tart—ideal for springtime sipping or any occasion that calls for something a little special.

Ingredients:
2 oz dry gin
½ oz maraschino liqueur
¼ oz crème de violette
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
Ice
Optional garnish: brandied cherry or lemon twist
Preparation:
Add gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
Garnish with a brandied cherry or a lemon twist, if desired.
Notes & Suggestions:
Use a high-quality dry gin that’s not overly botanical; London dry styles work well.
Crème de violette can overpower, so don’t be tempted to increase the amount. A little goes a long way.
For a slightly drier version, reduce the maraschino liqueur to ¼ oz.
